Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: May 18, 2026

1. Who This Applies To

Everyone using Garisea — buyers, dealers, partners, and visitors. This is in addition to the customer-facing Terms of Service and the dealer-facing Dealer Terms; where the AUP overlaps with either, the AUP's prohibitions still apply.

2. What You Must Not Do

The following are not allowed on any Garisea surface — listings, messages, reviews, photos, profile fields, search queries, anywhere:

3. Fraud and Misrepresentation

  • Listing a vehicle you don't own or aren't authorized to sell. No drop-shipping, no listings on behalf of someone else without disclosure.
  • Bait pricing — advertising one price and charging another at the point of sale.
  • Stolen vehicles, vehicles with disputed title, or vehicles imported in violation of Kenyan law.
  • Fake reviews — by you, on your own listing, on a competitor, or coordinated with anyone else.
  • Impersonating another dealer, brand, or person.
  • Off-platform payment scams — asking buyers for deposits via M-Pesa to a non-Garisea number, claiming you'll "hold the car" against a wire transfer, etc.

4. Harassment and Abuse

  • Harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual content, or discrimination on any platform surface — including private messages, reviews, and listing descriptions.
  • Repeated unwanted contact after someone has indicated they aren't interested.
  • Doxxing — publishing someone's personal information without consent.

5. Platform Integrity

  • Scraping, automated access, or any non-API data extraction. The GraphQL endpoint is for first-party clients; third-party access requires written agreement.
  • Reverse-engineering the platform, probing for vulnerabilities outside an authorized security program, or running denial- of-service traffic.
  • Creating multiple accounts to evade suspensions, manipulate reviews, or abuse promotional offers.
  • Bypassing the search / contact gating with technical tricks — the gates exist to keep the marketplace healthy for everyone.

6. Intellectual Property

Don't upload content you don't own or have permission to use — photos, descriptions, dealer logos, vehicle brand marks. If a copyright owner or trademark holder asks us to take content down, see our DMCA / IP Takedown Policy for the process.

7. Off-Platform Contact

Buyers reach dealers via the channels each dealer enables (in-app chat, WhatsApp, phone, email). We log conversations on in-app chat for fraud detection and quality assurance — that log is privileged and confidential. Once a buyer and dealer move the conversation off-platform, Garisea has no visibility into the sale, and that communication isn't our responsibility — but the AUP still applies to anything you do with contact details obtained through the platform.

8. What Happens If You Violate This

Depending on severity and intent: warning, content removal, listing pause, account suspension, account ban, or referral to Kenyan authorities. We don't publish a points-based ladder — context matters too much. Repeated minor violations can stack to a ban; a single severe violation (fraud, threats, stolen property) jumps straight to permanent account closure. Where possible we notify and give an opportunity to appeal, but we reserve the right to act immediately when the platform or its users are at risk.

9. How to Report a Violation

Every vehicle listing, dealer profile, in-app message, and customer review on Garisea carries a Report affordance (the flag icon, available on web and in the mobile app). Tap it, pick a reason, and submit — reports are confidential and our moderation team does not identify the reporter to the reported party.

Take-down commitment: we review every report within 24 hours and act on confirmed violations (content removal, listing pause, account suspension, or full ban depending on severity) the same day. Reports submitted outside business hours are reviewed on the next working morning.

You can also email us at [email protected] with the listing URL, dealer name, or message context for anything that needs more detail than the in-app Report flow captures. High-severity reports (fraud, threats, stolen property) are picked up immediately regardless of business hours.

Blocking abusive users: on both web and mobile, every dealer profile and inquiry thread also has a Block action. Blocking stops the other party from contacting you and removes their messages from your inbox. Unblock from Profile → Blocked Users at any time.
