The Nissan Vannette is a compact minivan primarily suited for small business owners and tradespeople in Kenya who need a practical vehicle for urban deliveries or light commercial use. With its 2WD configuration and typically 2-seat layout, it's designed more for cargo than passengers. The Vannette's compact dimensions make it ideal for navigating tight city streets and parking in congested areas, while its age and mileage suggest it's often a budget-friendly option for those starting or expanding a business.
The Vannette is generally reliable, with a reputation for durability in urban settings. However, high-mileage units may face issues with suspension components due to Kenya's rough roads. The petrol engine is robust if maintained properly, though it may develop oil leaks over time.
Maintenance is straightforward, with most mechanics familiar with the Vannette's basic systems. Regular oil changes and timely replacement of wear items like brake pads and belts are crucial. The automatic transmission requires periodic fluid changes to avoid issues, especially given Nairobi's traffic conditions.
Parts are readily available in Nairobi's Kirinyaga Road and Grogan areas, as well as through spares dealers in Mombasa and Nakuru. Genuine parts can be sourced from Nissan's authorized service centres, though aftermarket options are often more economical. Some body parts may be harder to find due to the model's age.
The petrol engine, often a 1.8L or 2.0L, offers decent fuel economy for city driving, though it can be somewhat thirsty on the highway when fully loaded. Expect moderate consumption in Nairobi's stop-and-go traffic.
