Questions

How do I transfer car ownership in Kenya?

Ownership is transferred through NTSA via the TIMS portal on eCitizen: the seller initiates the transfer and enters the buyer's details, the buyer accepts and the transfer fee is paid, and NTSA issues an updated logbook in the buyer's name.

What happens if I don't transfer ownership after buying a car?

The car stays registered in the seller's name, so liability, traffic penalties and parking offences can keep falling on them. Start the transfer promptly once payment is complete.

A quick note. This is a general template provided free for convenience — not legal, financial or professional advice. For high-value or unusual situations, get professional advice and confirm current procedures (for example with NTSA). Garisea isn’t a party to your transaction.
